Is This Thing Still On?
It's me - Cactus - your delinquent blogger friend here. It's obviously been a while since I chimed in, but I have some good reasons for that. You see, back in November I made this silly decision to go get some more education because really, I can't have Amy prancing around with more letters after her name than I have! That just doesn't seem fair. So, I got myself enrolled in the Certified Management Accounting program thinking it wouldn't be too bad dealing with two night classes a week on top of working full time and trying to train enough to at least not get fat. Clearly, I have some screws loose.
Understandably, time has been at a premium for the last couple of months. I'm still squeezing in a bit of training, swimming with Fastlane during the week, and then with Leading Edge on Sundays. I get in a bit of riding on Saturdays and still commute to work on the bike every day. I run here and there when I get a chance, but that's not even once a week (I ran on Sunday for the first time in six weeks and I still hurt). All told, I'm putting in about 7 hours a week of training with no hope of staying really fit this year and only one race planned for now - Self Transcendence in August.
School, while taxing (pun entirely intended), is going well. I have my first exam of four for the program next week, so I'm nearly a quarter of the way through already. I'm trying to find ways to get the material into my head while spending less time and in the last couple of weeks I think that's been more effective - though Amy could tell you whether or not I'm just kidding myself. I guess we'll also see whether or not it's all going in when I write the exam! I haven't been super keen on the material so far, but it begins by building the foundation upon which we can start looking at interesting things, so I'll just bide my time until later in the spring and summer when we get to cover the better topics.
On top of everything, work has been really crazy lately. We've had a ton of interest in our products the last couple of months which has increased the load. Additionally, we've transitioned my role a bit so that I'm taking on more responsibility for driving the product forward and pushing for innovation out of our engineering and manufacturing teams. That all has made me quite a bit busier, which is a mixed blessing.
So, you can rest assured that I haven't abandoned the blog or fitness completely after Ironman. I'm just on a little hiatus and will be chiming in when I get a few moments.

whoa, you are busy!
now, what's amy's excuse for the lack of blogging??? :)
I am right there with you! The GF is getting her PhD in developmental Psych, so I decided to go back to school last year to get a Master's of Accountancy and eventually get my CPA certification. It keeps me very busy, but somehow I am blogging more now than when I was not as busy. weird, I know. Glad to hear from you, and it sounds like everything is going well at home and at work! Hope you had a great weekend!
