But it's a good tired ...

Following IM, I managed to keep riding the bike and swimming quite a bit, but the running fell off the radar. Since Amy wasn't running at all, and I was generally a bit worn out, I just let it slide because I wasn't motivated by any looming events or anything intrinsic.

But that motivation? Yeah - found something. It turns out that spending five days on the east coast eating and drinking far too much has a funny way of making you think you should get back on the wagon! And so, after bike commuting Wednesday and Thursday, I got home last night and decided it was time for a run. My first in several weeks. I knew that I'd suffer some, but it really was mostly bearable. I tried to keep the pace a little faster than my IM marathon pace, but still slower than my target 1/2 marathon pace. I held it together for a little more than 40 minutes and was then pleased to be done. My legs were definitely tired last night and it's going to take a while to get back into things, but I feel good.

To add to the fatigue, our swim this morning was epic. While we generally have several pieces with little breaks in between to catch your breath and recover a little, today's workout seemed to just continue on and on without pause. After 1,000 m of continuous "warm-up", we jumped quickly into 3 x 300 m without much rest and then just kept right on going. When all was said and done, we'd swum 3,100 m in an hour, and definitely deserved our Friday morning Mocha!
