50 things about Brian

And here's 50 things about Brian. I see a theme here. Um, can we say sports fanatic. Yeah. Brian is the walking talking definition of a sport fanatic.

(AS COMPILED BY BRIAN)

1. I am a sports fanatic

2. My first love was hockey

3. I scored the championship-winning goal in a shootout when I was 14 or 15 years old … my hockey career was all downhill from there!

4. My next love was golf

5. I shot my best round ever, a 73, during club championship and it is one of my proudest sporting accomplishments

6. I didn’t get good at golf until I learned to control my emotions on the course

7. I still have work to do with controlling my emotions on the course

8. I got to live out a dream to walk around Augusta National at the Masters in 2004

9. I started training for triathlons because I was newly single and bored … both times

10. Who would have thought that would lead me to the woman of my dreams?!

11. I’m not nearly as mentally tough as I should be, and triathlon has proven that to me

12. I love school

13. I’m great with numbers

14. I did extremely well in 7 advanced university level calculus courses, yet I often make simple arithmetic mistakes because I get too lazy to pay attention to what I’m doing

15. I’m strong with anything that utilizes the left side of my brain

16. I’m not so great with arts or anything that requires the right side of my brain

17. I wish I had more artistic talent

18. I played six different instruments growing up (guitar, piano, alto saxophone, soprano saxophone, trombone, bass trombone)

19. I played none of them artistically … it was more of a science … don’t ask me to improvise

20. I love business and Amy says that I see the world in black and red

21. For the most part, she’s right

22. With my current job, I’m beginning to see a little bit more green as well … though it’s in the search for more black

23. I really wanted to go to the University of Michigan to do my MBA

24. I wasn’t patient enough to get the extra work experience I needed to get in

25. While I sometimes wonder what might have been if I had gotten accepted, I’m really happy with how it played out because of the people I’ve met and the experiences I’ve had in Vancouver

26. I still cheer for the University of Michigan at every turn (football, hockey, etc)

27. I am a die-hard Detroit Red Wings fan

28. Steve Yzerman will always be the greatest hockey player in my eyes

29. It meant a lot to me to be able to go back home to see the team retire Stevie’s jersey

30. One of my happiest memories is seeing the Wings win the Cup in 1997 with my dad

31. I am also a die-hard Detroit Lions fan … hey, at least I have something to cheer for with the Red Wings

32. While I’m not a big basketball fan, I think the most compelling annual sporting event is March Madness

33. I don’t get nearly enough time to spend with my friends who are too far away

34. My best friend hasn’t lived in the same city as me for more than two months in the last ten years, yet I’ll never have a friend more important to me

35. My favourite TV show was The West Wing

36. I really like Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, but the ratings say that I’m the only one

37. I love movie popcorn … too bad you can’t get it without paying $25 to go see a movie!

38. My favourite food is Roladen

39. I have an unusual affinity for the colour pink, all stemming from randomly being placed in the pink frosh group during my first week at university

40. My good friend and I have affectionately called each other “Dickhead” for the last nine years since meeting in the pink frosh group

41. Dickhead convinced me to do my first triathlon

42. My favourite games are Jeopardy and Trivial Pursuit

43. I wish that all the categories in both games were sports related, because that’s what I seem to know

44. Amy often wonders how such useless crap is stored in my head about sports

45. I also really like Wheel of Fortune

46. As such, I have tried popular sports such as Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, and Football, as well as more obscure (locally) sports such as Curling, Aussie Rules Football, and Cricket

47. I like the comic Dilbert. I can relate to it.

48. I was, very briefly, a member of Mensa

49. I didn’t so much want to be a member, I just wanted to see if I could get in

50. My mom beat me by a couple of points on the entry test and makes fun of me for it … in good humour, of course

"Dickhead" here,
I just read your list of 50 Things About Brian and I nearly fell off my chair lauging when I read, first, the one about calling your good friend "Dickhead" and then the next line reads.. "Dickhead convinced me to my first triathlon". I think this is only funny for the two of us.
Nic and I are in Corner Brook right now, just did the 70.3. We are looking forward to seeing you at the end of August. Cheers!!!
